4. Goals: My first short-term goal (first step) toward achieving my long-range goal is:

I will do this by (date)

5. Does it meet the goal setting criteria outlined in the previous check-list?

6. Other short term goals. On a separate sheet of paper, create three headings on paper: “Personal Goal” “Date to be Achieved” “Results” Use this to keep tract of your progress and to help fine tune your plan.

*Sometimes the achievement of a goal can be blocked by you or by external factors. If the block is coming from you, it may be necessary to set and achieve early short-term goals to develop specific skills or to change your attitudes, feelings and thoughts. If the blocks are coming from other people then you may need to set your first short-term goal for improvement in your relationship skills in order to overcome these blocks. But first it will be necessary to document the reality of any blocks you might expect. Often the “expecting” of blocks creates them. Actually, since your long-range goal is to meet the criterion of “achievable,” you need to anticipate goal achievement problems before you set your goal.
